I was briefed to produce electronic press kits for distribution via email and web. For Soul Purpose, I produced an EPK for the release of their first single and title track from their second EP, Casual. For Christopher Chambers, a professional drummer, I produced an EPK showcasing his versatility in performance. For both, content was written by another party, so I was somewhat restricted in my editing.
For the Soul Purpose EPK, I had some excellent photography to work with, however due to the volume of copy, I decided to lead with the solid block colour used in their EP artwork. To add focus to the video element, I composited a clickable object with a large target area that would navigate the reader directly to the video.
In Christopher’s case, the quality of the imagery was a little more restricting, so I opted again to work with bold text and colour and produce a gallery of smaller images, so as not to highlight their lower resolution. As Chris would be looking for work on a solo basis, I decided to include a headshot in the EPK as musicians, like actors, may find themselves selected on their physical appearance as much as their experience.
At the time of writing, Soul Purpose’s video for Casual has gone on to have around 2,000 views on YouTube. Christopher Chambers continues performing professionally.
