David Brown accessories circa 1960

In an earlier blog post, I shared my discovery of a David Brown accessories catalogue  for the 950, which advertised add-ons available for what was then the flagship David Brown model. The catalogue also provides options, albeit without illustrations, for David Brown’s previous models.

From 1958 to 1961, the David Brown 950 was the company’s flagship model. At that time, the company had been producing tractors for around 20 years already. David Brown were still producing modifications, add-ons and accessories for several of their previous models.

All accessories marked * are the same as illustrated in the David Brown 950 catalogue.

David Brown accessories for the 900

The David Brown 900 was the first of the so-called implematic David Browns. Although they wouldn’t be known as implematic until the later selectomatic models were produced.

It was the only model of David Brown to have blue wheels, which somewhat jarred. Today, many David Brown enthusiasts suggest that the 900 was one of the less successful models produced. Given its similarity to the 950 that came after it, several of these accessories are the same for both models:

    • Heavy Duty Overload Release Unit
    • P.T.O. Reduction Unit
    • T.C.U Trailer Drawbar*
    • Electrical Equipment (10,000 Series)

David Brown accessories for the 2D

David Brown accessories were available for the 2D, like this one at St Winnow Barton Farm Museum

The David Brown 2D is a unique little row crop tractor. This example appears at the St Winnow Barton Farm Museum.

A strange yet fondly remembered little tractor, there were just over 2,000 2Ds sold. They’re a very lightweight row cropping tractor, with a 14hp engine at the rear. We’re fortunate enough to have a 2D at the farm museum.

The 2D was further characterised by it’s attachable implements that mounted onto the tractor itself. However there were also several accessories advertised in this catalogue:

    • Font Wheel Ballast Weights
    • Rear Wheel Ballast Weights*
    • Lighting Equipment
    • Number Plates
    • Power Take-off Unit
    • Front Axle Ballast Weights
    • Tool Bar Support Chain
    • Belt Pulley
    • Engine Fittings
    • Front Axle Extension
    • Drawbar Extension
    • Drawbar

David Brown accessories for the 25/30 models

David Brown accessories were available for the 25D, like this one at St Winnow Barton Farm Museum

This David Brown 25D is part of the collection at the St Winnow Barton Farm Museum.

Covering all fuel variations of the 25 and 30 models, these David Brown accessories would be suitable for the 25D and 30D models we have at the St Winnow Barton Farm Museum.

Production of these models had already ended in 1958, but they were huge successes that cemented David Brown’s place in the tractor market. David Brown accessories that were still available included:

    • Two Speed Belt Pulley and P.T.O. Unit
    • Two Speed Belt Pulley Unit only
    • Parts required to convert U5E to U5D
    • Rear Wheel Ballast Weights

David Brown accessories for tracked models

David Brown accessories were not so widely available for tracked models at this point. But there is a listing in the catalogue for the 30T, 30TD, 50T and 50TD models. Finally, the catalogue offers a Single Belt Pulley Unit for these models.

David Brown accessories were available for the 50TD, like this one at St Winnow Barton Farm Museum

This original 50TD was a success on our farm as it could cover hilly ground that wheeled tractors couldn’t manage.
